But as they investigate strange happenings and grow closer Cicero sees that he misjudged Tom completely and Tom falls for Cicero thanks to his sassy mouth and snarky attitude.
And his good looks don't hurt either. The end is epic, as always. Many secrets revealed, hurt and betrayal is in the air.
But witches and familiars band together to defeat a common unexpected enemy. I always wonder about the fact that all criminal masterminds don't have any contingency plans.
They forge forward and always lose. The ending is sweet and has lots of promise for next story. A wonderful fast-paced magical hexread!
I highly recommend! May 01, Daphne rated it it was amazing Shelves: m-m-read , books. Cicero might be my favorite character of And Tom He was just an inherently decent guy.
A good man. Joining Cicero's delicately feline persnickety self with a solid bloke somehow just worked - so, so well. The world building was intense and thorough.
The mystery was unique and engaging. I noticed this in the short prequel story, how Rook would caw out a laugh. It's more present in this book and it adds so much.
Tom and Cicero had a Gift of the Magi vibe in this book. The feelings seemed real as they started, built, shattered and so forth.
Recommend reading the 13th Hex first but it's not critically necessary. Fabulous start to a new series.

Listened to in May Ah, Cicero! He's such an awesome character. You just have to love his teasing humor and elegance! But Tom is just as wonderful, always calm and steady, building the perfect counter balance of Cicero.
The world building was really good and the MCs were just perfect. Especiall Listened to in May Ah, Cicero! Especially adorable Cicero was so much fun, I absolutely loved him!

What a entertaining journey! Being teleported into an alternate universe- the late s in New York City. The one you could instinctively recognized, you could live with, and your magic would be stronger.
Except by death. Or by a Hexbreaker. If Cicero a cat shifter hadn't bonded with Tom, the Irish copper would have been entirely mine.
I'm just pulling your leg, they are just a perfect couple. The two grow closer as they investigate the murders and Hexes, and beyond any doubt they earned their destiny.
It's a roller coaster of emotion as the two come together. They are opposite characters, but I felt their very strong connection.
A secret past and a mystery to be resolved are just part of their bumpy journey. The threat is larger than they thought. And people are not always what they seem.
This is my second read by Jordan L Hawk, but already know her ability to intertwine the paranormal with historical, adding a mystery, action, enough tender, romantic and smoking hot scenes.
And as a result the feeling of complete personal satisfaction and Because this man— this ogre— was his witch. Sep 22, Chris rated it it was amazing Shelves: mm-contemporary , paranormal , crime-mystery.
I absolutely loved this - a non stop all day read! She tells great stories and is able to plot a mysterious storyline with great care and perfection.
This story was focused on Tom and Cisero. Tom had taken the identity of another man after a tragic situation that left him alone and lost.
He'd slowly built a reputation as a fair and honest poli I absolutely loved this - a non stop all day read!
He'd slowly built a reputation as a fair and honest policeman who lived his life quietly. He was hiding in plain sight and really wasn't living a life.
The death of a man under strange circumstances meant Tom needed to work with the Witch police force and his fears of being exposed became a problem.
Boom - he meets Cisero - the sassy cat familiar - the polar opposite to all that Tom was. Compared to Cisero, Tom was innocent, naive and remarkably humble.
Of course opposites attract and this book was all about the growing connection between these two while solving a mystery.
Cisero was an adorable character and I loved his "cat" nature I loved this book and was totally engaged. Mar 15, Sofia rated it really liked it Shelves: fantasy-au-paranormal , eagerly-read , smilies.
A real fun read I'm very partial to Hawk's brand of paranormal, the kind of brand I can wholely get into.
Which I look forward to in this one - as I'm hoping that there will be more. I've even got scenarios floating in my mind.
And to you Caro Cicero So che questo non fare bene al tuo ego, ma sei magnifico! THIS WAS SO BLOODY GOOD!!!!!
Love love love love love love love love love!! I was truly psyched to learn that Jordan L. Hawk was going to turn the world she created in her short story The 13th Hex which I had the chance to review in the Charmed and Dangerous: Ten Tales of Gay Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy anthology into a series.
I adored Dominic and Rook, and found the world of familiars and their witches to be highly fascinating. Not to mention that any world that Jordan Hawk creates is bound to have all sorts of fun little avenues to explore, and the short s I was truly psyched to learn that Jordan L.
We met Cicero briefly in The 13th Hex as a fellow familiar and friend of Rook. Now Cicero gets his own story, as the cat familiar sets out to find just what happened to his friend Isaac, and what it all has to do with the hex-death of one of their friends.
All of this is made easier and much much harder when Tom Halloran shows up to the MWP with a similar case from across town. Together they must figure out who is setting these hexes before they have more than just a handful of deaths on their hands.
There is only one, ok two , problems. One, Cicero takes one look at Tom and knows he has found his witch. Caught between the lies they keep to themselves and the truths they must uncover, Cicero and Tom attempt to save a city all the while attempting to cling to the little bits of freedom they could so easily lose if the truth comes out.
When it comes to historical paranormals, there are very few authors I trust more than Jordan L. Hawk to deliver a stunning story.
Set in late December in New York City, this story is a captivating blend of historical fact and magical imagination. I loved how the magic of hexes, and the use of witches and familiars were weaved into the existing historical world.
Like most historicals that exist in a slightly alternative time-line, there are certainly differences in how the world works, but the overall feeling of this book rang true to me.
Here though we get a deeper, and truer look into just what it is like to be one of the magical men and women of New York City.
Familiars, even those under the protection of the MWP, are pressured to find witches even if it not their witch so to pay back the city for their care.
Being beaten and starved by a witch till a familiar gives into the bond is a very real possibility. It is no wonder that some people wish to fight back.
But how far they will go, is the real question. One made all the more deadly when the absinthe hexes start popping up and killing people.
Especially since Tom knows exactly what they are, even if he cannot say where they are coming from. In usual Hawk style, you can never really be sure who is pulling the strings till the end of the book and maybe not even then but the journey is well worth the price of admission.
Not the least because of Cicero and Tom. Secrets and lies and love…all three push this story to the brink and hold the reader there, trapped needing to know what happens next but dreading it all the same.
You know that Tom is gonna have to come clean. You know that Cicero is gonna have to choose his witch.
These two make an excellent pair. Not only as lovers, but as detectives. The author may know how to write wonderful mysteries, but it is the characters she creates that really sell the story.
I cannot say how much I enjoyed this story. Not to the fullest extent, at least. There are always things I keep back because you need to discover them on your own.
But I will say that this is the beginning of a great new series and i am eagerly anticipating whatever shall come next for these characters and those we have not had a chance to get to really know yet.

The fictional universe of this book was amazingly constructed. Such a great imagination and an even more wonderful way to describe it. I was honestly hooked at page four.
This is the first book of Jordan L. Hawk I read and I found her writing style as enchanting as the whole magic world she created. The orbs that land there can bring you prizes of up to 5, coins.
The witch theme is the same one as the one from previous titles, and it gives us black cats, ravens, the number 13, potions, voodoo dolls, and other equally creepy images.
Lastly, there are various feature symbols in use, such as black cats, horseshoes, bonus logos, but also the low value Royals. The graphics are not impressive, far from it, but they do their job and they are dark enough to fit the theme.
Hexbreaker 3 looks like a slot machine that might be worth looking into, at least if you tend to enjoy the scary genre.
It certainly has enough features in it, though they seem a bit too complex at times, as they require several pages of text to explain how they work.Sortieren: Standard Hilfreichste Neueste.
